Two car company bosses lose their jobs, a third retires

As the car industry continues to suffer, the heads of two of the biggest car distributors in New Zealand are out of a job.

The jobs of Motorcorp managing director Wallis Dumper and Porsche New Zealand general manager Grant Smith have both been disestablished in company restructurings. Mr Dumper declined to stay on in a lesser role.

Sales of passenger and commercial vehicles in New Zealand are down by 31.3% from the same time last year.

Meamwhile, Mitsubishi managing director John Leighton has retired at the age of 60 but he says he was not pushed and his retirement has nothing to do with any other changes that might be going on within the industry: he simply felt it was time to put his feet up after 37 years with the company.
