Home Rescue Trust referred to police

The Commerce Commission has referred to police allegations about a group which claimed to prevent mortgagee sales.

Waikato-based group Home Rescue Trust has previously claimed it is a charitable trust which can prevent foreclosure and bankruptcy.

The commission says its preliminary investigation has uncovered issues which are more appropriately dealt with by police.

In June the commission told Home Rescue Trust it was not a registered charitable trust, and warned it that it risked breaching the Fair Trading Act because its claim to being able to prevent mortagee sales was wrong.
