8:11 pm on 2 October 2009

Police are hunting for two suspects who robbed a family resting in a campervan along the Desert Road in the central North Island.

The incident happened about 25km south of Turangi about 1.30pm on Friday.

Detective Sergeant Neale Saunders says the pair, believed to be Maori or Pacific Islanders, broke into the van demanding money.

One is described as being about 1.76 metres tall, while the other is more than 1.8 metres tall with dreadlock hair and a cultural tattoo on the right side of his face.

Mr Saunders says the family believes the offenders left in a diesel-powered vehicle.

Police are appealing for information from the public.
