Fuel sales drove a rise in electronic card spending in September.

During the month, there were 90 million electronic transactions with a seasonally-adjusted value of $4.8 billion, Statistics New Zealand figures say.

The value of transactions in the retail sector rose 0.7% in September, the biggest contributor being automotive fuel retailing.

The trend since the start of the year has been for the value of transactions to increase.
