Inquest to be held for Kahui twins

2:51 pm on 12 October 2009

The killings of baby twins Chris and Cru Kahui in 2006 will be the subject of an inquest by the Chief Coroner.

The coroner's office has confirmed that a start date of 22 February next year has been set down in the Auckland District Court.

The babies' father, Chris Kahui, was acquitted of murder in May 2008 at the end of a trial that lasted six weeks.

Mr Kahui blamed their mother, Macsyna King, for head injuries that the boys died from. No one else was ever charged.

Chief Coroner Judge Neil Maclean has previously said any inquest would not focus on proving who killed the babies.

Instead, it will take a wider look at the deaths, including how they happened.
