Food prices fell 0.7% in September, driven largely by a fall in fruit and vegetable prices which are down 8.4%.
Grocery food prices fell 0.1%, but restaurant and ready-to-eat meals rose 0.3%.
Food prices rose 3.3% in the year to September, which is the smallest annual increase since June 2007.
