Police instructed to aim lower with tasers

Police officers who use Taser stun guns will be instructed to aim a little lower.

Assistant Commissioner Viv Rickard says manufacturers Taser International have advised that targetting the belt buckle line of offenders will reduce the risk of causing cardiac arrest.

Police training will be changed accordingly. A roll-out of tasers to police districts is due to be completed by the end of next year.

Assistant Commissioner Rickard says none of the six people who have been tasered since last December suffered adverse health effects.
