Former prison manager to face trial on drugs charges

A former unit manager at Rimutaka Prison has been committed for trial on drugs charges.

Jeffrey Mark Reid, 44, appeared in Wellington District Court on Friday morning.

He was arrested as part of a long-running operation which investigated claims of drugs at Rimutaka Prison.

He has pleaded not guilty to charges of supplying cannabis, conspiring to sell the drug and also cultivating it.

Mr Reid was remanded on bail to appear at a pre-trial hearing on 26 January.

A second man arrested this week as part of a police operation also appeared in Wellington District Court on Friday.

The prison guard, 41, is accused of supplying cannabis at Rimutaka prison over a 12-month period up until this month.

He was remanded on bail until 7 December. Interim name suppression was granted.
