Taxi drivers to respond to burglar alarms

An Auckland security company is training taxi drivers to respond to burglar alarms.

First Response New Zealand has employed the services of Alert Taxis to help cut down its response times when an alarm is activated.

The company trains taxi drivers as security guards, so those who are nearest the scene of a possible break-in can respond immediately. The aim is for a response within 15 minutes.

First Response chief operating officer Paul Staples says only trained, certified drivers will respond to alarms.

By integrating with the taxi industry, which already has a significant fleet of vehicles out on the streets, he says the security company can cover a wider area with faster response times.
