Fatigue, lack of seat belt contributed to crash death

Updated at 1:18 pm on 4 November 2009

The police in South Waikato say fatigue and failure to wear a seat belt contributed to the death of a Hastings man in a collision.

Hasam Ali, 45, was thrown from his car on impact and died at the scene, on State Highway 1 just south of Putaruru.

Police say his car appeared to cross the centre line and into the path of another vehicle.

They say the consequences of drivers and passengers not wearing seatbelts in the event of a crash are extremely serious.

Both were overturned, close to the intersection with Jones Road, south of Putaruru.

The driver of the second car, a 42-year-old Putaruru woman, is Waikato Hospital's intensive care unit in a serious condition.
