A Wellington jury has heard that a man who was fatally beaten in the Wairarapa town of Featherston suffered serious injuries including a punctured lung and fractures to his jaw and ribs.

Sean Sullivan, Andrew Kupa-Caudwell and Rangitera Walker are before the High Court in Wellington charged with murdering Paul Irons in October last year.

In his opening address, Crown Prosecutor Simon Barr told the court that Paul Irons had briefly met the three accused at a party in Featherston.

He said Mr Irons was asked to leave because of his use of drugs.

Early next morning, Mr Irons crossed paths again with the three accused and the Crown says they kicked and stomped on him inflicting several injuries.

He died in hospital five days later.
