The family of an elderly man who left a $22,000 wad of cash stashed inside an old ship's lamp before he died, believes it's likely he concealed cash in numerous other places.
A man viewing the lamp prior to it going to auction in Auckland on Tuesday discovered the money and alerted the auction house.
Andrew Grigg, an auctioneer at Cordy's auction house, says the find came as no surprise to the man's daughter as he had a reputation for stashing cash in all kinds of unusual nooks and crannies.
Mr Grigg says the man's family is convinced cash is stashed in other items but they don't have the faintest idea where to look.
