Homicide investigation into Hamilton death

Hamilton police are investigating the killing of a man during a drinking session at a garage in the suburb of Chartwell.

A homicide investigation has been launched after the incident in Belmont Avenue at 1.30am on Thursday.

Police say a 28-year-old who lived at the property and a friend got into an altercation with a group of men in the driveway.

The dead man suffered an injury to the side of his head. Police are still looking for the weapon used.

The man was also kicked repeatedly when he fell to the ground, police say, and his friend suffered minor injuries when he tried to stop the attack.

The 28-year-old died while paramedics were trying to save him.

Detective Inspector Russell Le Prou says police are working towards finding witnesses and a scene examination is being carried out.
