A police pursuit through Waikato has ended with a driver facing a raft of charges.

The chase started in Dinsdale early on Friday morning, when a car failed to pull over for a routine traffic stop.

Police say the driver avoided road spikes near Te Kowhai but burst a tyre when officers laid a second set near Te Rapa.

Despite this, the car kept going, reaching speeds of up to 120 km/h before finally coming to a halt in Ngaruawahia, police say.

As officers surrounded the vehicle the driver managed to restart it and drove into a stationary patrol car, narrowly missing an officer.

A 25-year-old man faces charges including driving with excess breath alcohol, driving while disqualified, reckless driving and failing to stop.
