Prime Minister John Key says an announcement is close on a deal for free-to-air broadcast rights for the 2011 Rugby World Cup.
Cabinet last month agreed to support a joint bid to the International Rugby Board, led by Maori Television with Television New Zealand and TV3 also on board.
Under that bid, Maori Television would screen 16 of the main games live, and TVNZ and TV3 nine of those games each.
Mr Key has indicated that an announcement could be made this week. He says he believes there will be a positive outcome with only small changes made.
