Fault stops some mobile calls

Updated at 7:01 pm on 27 November 2009

A fault on Telecom's XT Network left some cellphone users unable to make phone calls for more than five hours on Friday.

Telecom says the fault affected mobile customers south of Taupo, although a small number of people in the Auckland area also experienced problems.

A Telecom spokesperson says technical staff fixed the fault shortly after 3pm on Friday but the cause of the problem is still unclear.

Customers on the existing CDMA network were not affected.
