Strong quake east of Raoul Island

A strong earthquake measuring 6.1 was measured near an Raoul Island in the Kermadecs at 10.21pm on Saturday, the United States Geological Survey said.

The horizontal quake was recorded 80km east of Raoul Island, the largest of the Kermadec group, at a depth of 10km.

It was situated 1140km northeast of Auckland.

There were no immediate reports of injury or damage.
