Seven of the 10 members of the new National Health Board named on Wednesday are doctors and nurses.

The board is being set up inside the Ministry of Health to consolidate the national planning and funding of information technology, workforce planning and capital investment for all 21 district health boards.

Minister of Health Tony Ryall announced in October the board would be chaired by former Treasury Secretary Murray Horn.

He says the other members are: Virginia Hope, Jeff Brown, Bev O'Keefe, Margaret Wilsher, Rob Cooper, Mary Gordon, Marion Guy, Haydon Wano, Des Gorman and Graeme Osborne.

Mr Ryall says greater clinical leadership is needed on the new board, along with financial and health management expertise.
