Clayton Weatherston's appeal against his conviction for the murder of Sophie Elliott will be heard by the Court of Appeal next June.

Weatherston, an Otago University economics lecturer, was found guilty of murder in a jury trial in July, and sent to jail for a minimum of 18 years in September.

He had admitted manslaughter after stabbing 22-year-old Miss Elliott 216 times, but he maintains he did not murder her. She was his former girlfriend.
