The Automobile Association says that very experienced motorcyclists should not be penalised by massive increases in ACC levies.
The association has appeared before a parliamentary select committee considering changes to ACC legislation.
Levy increases for motorcyclists and others are still being considered and are not included in the law change, but the topic came up for discussion nonetheless.
Mike Noon from the AA said riders who undertook training should benefit from lower levies.
He said bikers who've been riding for years tend to have fewer accidents but new riders, especially men between 40 and 60 looking for a new life and falling off their bike, were proving very expensive.
