Bomb squad clears Wellington bank building

9:44 pm on 9 December 2009

The police specialist bomb squad has not found anything suspicious in a central Wellington bank building, after a search triggered by a note to a teller on Wednesday afternoon.

The cordon around the National Bank Building in Featherston Street was reduced to surround just the bank branch on Wednesday evening, with Wellington CIB detectives investigating.

The police say the incident began after a teller was handed a note about 3pm suggesting there was a bomb in the building.

The resulting cordon covered most of Featherston Street and caused heavy traffic congestion around the area.
