Toy spending down this season

Average spending on toys is reported to be down this year, but parents are still buying plenty of them.

A Toy World megastore in Wellington says traditional Christmas gifts such as games and Lego are doing very well.

Owner Philip Bramley says Lego in particular is outselling just about any other toy. Sets cost up to $1000.

He says shoppers are buying the same number of toys as last year, but are spending less overall.

Mr Bramley says many parents are also looking for quality products that will last well beyond Christmas Day.
