No change by Fonterra on end to exports from Timaru

Fonterra says it will not reconsider its decision to reduce its use of Port of Timaru.

The port company was told last month that Fonterra would no longer use it to export goods.

Instead, locally produced dairy products will be sent by rail to Lyttlelton to be shipped.

Without Fonterra's cargo, the port, which has 70 employees, will lose almost half of its volume.

Fonterra says it will continue to use the port and the logistics infrastructure around it.

The company says the decision to reduce operations will improve customer services.
