A memorial service was held in Christchurch on Friday for diabetes specialist Sir Donald Beaven.
Sir Donald died at the age of 85 last month when his Banks Peninsula bach caught fire.
Sir Donald, a professor of medicine at the medical school in Christchurch, accepted a knighthood earlier this year when the old honours system was restored. He had been made a Distinguished Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit in 2004.
The memorial service was held at Christchurch Town Hall.
