Campaign launched against Kiwibank closures in Christchurch

Christchurch residents are campaigning against the closure of Kiwibank outlets in the city. Six of the 14 Kiwibank facilities closed in the past year have been in that city.

Tim Armstrong, who lives in Redwood, says he was forced to change banks after his local Kiwibank closed.

Kiwibank is owned by New Zealand Post, whose head of retail operations and marketing, Scott Pollard, says the bank needs to be able to continue to evolve its network of postal and banking outlets.

Mr Pollard says New Zealand Post never undertakes changes like bank closures lightly.

A city councillor, Yani Johanson, told Nine to Noon he is concerned about the way Kiwibank is acting; he says he believes it is going against its statement of corporate intent.
