Police in Auckland are hunting three women who kidnapped an elderly woman subjecting her to what detectives describe as a terrifying ordeal.
The woman, 82, was shopping on West Tamaki Road on Friday afternoon and was forced into the back seat when she returned to her car.
Detective Sergeant Graeme Timms says she was taken to Glen Innes, where the kidnappers forced her to hand over her bank and credit cards.
These were used to withdraw more than $1500 in cash from an ATM machine.
Mr Timms says the woman was later abandoned at a car park and the trio went on to buy alcohol at a liquor store.
Detective Sergeant Timms says the victim is traumatised by the incident.
The offenders are described as Maori or Polynesian, aged in their 20s.
