Six financial institutions are to opt out of the Government retail deposit guarantee.
Deposits made with them from 1 January will not receive the guarantee from the Crown.
However, the guarantee will still apply to $84 million worth of deposits with the companies which mature between now and 12 October.
The institutions are: Aotearoa Credit Union, Asset Finance, Christchurch Emergency Services Credit Union, Farmers Mutual Finance, Mutual Credit Finance, and Rockforte Finance.
Sixty-three other institutions will continue in the scheme, which guarantees $130 billion of deposits and was introduced at the height of the global financial crisis.
