Rain, wind greets holidaymakers

3:11 pm on 29 December 2009

Holidaymakers in many areas of the country will have to contend with more unsettled weather over the next couple of days.

Rain was drenching Buller, Nelson, Marlborough, Wellington and the Tararuas on Tuesday, though it was set to lift by the afternoon.

MetService forecasts fine weather for the Far North and many other parts of the South Island on Tuesday.

But the forecaster warns a cold southwesterly bringing with it showers will cover most places on Wednesday.

The weather front was also due to bring westerly gales gusting up to 120 km/h for the east of the North Island, between Havelock North and Eketahuna, from late Tuesday afternoon until Wednesday afternoon.
