A second man arrested in relation to the shooting of a police officer in South Auckland has appeared in court.

Darren Court, 43, was arrested on Christmas Eve, two days after Constable Jeremy Snow was shot while on duty in Papatoetoe.

A man who has name suppression has also been arrested and has been charged with attempted murder.

Darren Court appeared in Auckland District Court on Tuesday, facing unrelated charges relating to car theft and violence.

He has been remanded without plea to reappear in March.

Detective Inspector Mark Gutry says charges in relation to the shooting are possible but won't be laid until an investigation is completed.

Constable Snow is still recovering in Middlemore Hospital.
