Farmer ordered to apologise for effluent offences

A King Country dairy farmer has been fined and ordered to apologise for a number of effluent discharges on his property.

Bennett Watson, who farms near Te Kuiti, has pleaded guilty in the Hamilton District Court to four charges of breaching the Resource Management Act last year.

The court heard that effluent failures led to over-application of effluent on paddocks, allowing it to get into a tomo and related waterways.

Watson was fined $3000 and ordered to make a public apology in a newspaper. He also has to speak of his experiences at a series of dairy effluent field days.
