Managers at Dunedin Hospital are meeting on Sunday to decide whether to end a lockdown imposed because of an outbreak of the gastro infection, norovirus.
They are assessing whether any more patients are effected.
Only hospital personnel bearing identification badges are allowed access to the main wards. The lockdown began on Saturday.
However, the emergency department is still open and is accepting new patients.
Over the past three weeks, 50 patients and staff have been diagnosed with Norovirus, which can cause stomach cramps, vomiting and diarrhoea.
Two wards are closed. Operations manager Megan Boivin says security guards are posted at some entrances to the hospital.
