"Sensible" new food market rules welcomed

The farmers markets organisation is praising efforts to re-vamp the regulations governing food safety.

The Food Safety Authority has reviewed the Food Act and issued a discussion paper on the changes that may come when a new Food Act is introduced.

It's proposing new national regulations that set minimum requirements that a food business must comply with, based on how risky the food is to consumers.

Farmers Markets NZ says the new approach appears to be much more sensible.

The Food Bill is expected to be introduced to Parliament next year.
