Winter Festival future reviewed

7:31 am on 2 July 2013

The owners of Queenstown's long-running Winter Festival are to review the future of the event as flagging sponsorship and community apathy threatens its survival.

Air New Zealand dropped out as a sponsor of the 10-day festival this year, although the airline did agree to put in some cash after a last-minute meeting.

Destination Queenstown chief executive Graham Budd says while most events this year were very well patronised, some sectors of the community feel the festival is a little tired and needs an injection of energy.

Changes may include the festival's ownership and how long the event runs.

Mr Budd says the review will begin soon and it will be 12 months before any changes are implemented.
