Regulation of legal high industry welcomed

The makers of legal highs are welcoming laws regulating the industry, which will mean they have to prove their products are safe.

The Psychoactive Substances Bill was passed in Parliament on Thursday night.

The Star Trust, which represents most legal high companies, says responsible manufacturers want the changes, and the industry will survive.

The bill is expected to become law next week.

The regime is expected to cost the companies more than $2 million to test and approve each drug.

Spokesperson Grant Hall said the industry will survive.
