Manawatu-Wanganui Regional Council has opened the Moutua flood-gates to relieve pressure on the lower part of the Manawatu River.
Rain has eased in the area and water levels in the Pohangina and Oroua Rivers are dropping, although the Manawatu River was still rising at two sites. The river was nearing its peak.
Farmers in the floodway are warned to keep stock out of the area until further advice.
