Jane Furlong was last seen on Auckland's Karangahape Road in May 1993 and her remains were found at Sunset Beach in Port Waikato, about an hour's drive south of the city in 2012.

Police are appealing for information about a grey van with a distinctive bubble shape that was known to be connected with the Karangahape Road area.

The officer leading the investigation, Inspector Mark Benefield, said on Friday it is also possible that the vehicle had connections to the Port Waikato area.

Mr Benefield is hopeful that someone who lived or worked in these areas will remember the van and the person who used it.

A detailed forensic search of Jane Furlong's last known address in Heretaunga Avenue in the Auckland suburb of Onehunga has been completed and police hope some items from there will move the inquiry forward.
