A woman died after a car she was travelling in plunged into water near Nelson at about midday on Saturday.
Police said the car, carrying three people, crossed the highway and crashed into Saltwater Creek. The tide was in at the time.
The woman died at the scene and a man and a child were taken to Nelson hospital.
