All Black captain Richie McCaw returned to rugby in Christchurch on Saturday afternoon.
Playing at his usual open-side flanker position, he drew about 2000 people to the Christchurch vs University match, his first taste of action for seven months.
In wet, muddy conditions history's most capped All Black helped his side to a 22-5 win over University.
Having taken some time to ease into the match, McCaw, 32, walked off the pitch after a full 80 minutes looking fit.
Yet to confirm his availability for the Crusaders playoffs, McCaw maintains the decision will be up to the team managers.
Chiefs in command
On Saturday night, the Chiefs beat the Blues 26-16 in their Super 12 match at Eden Park in Auckland.
With the win, the Chiefs wrap up the New Zealand conference.
