Flights from coast to Christchurch will 'boost region's economy'

Air New Zealand is launching a new daily direct service between Paraparaumu and Christchurch.

The Kapiti Coast town already has flights to Nelson, Blenheim and Auckland and the new connection will be operated by Air New Zealand's subsidiary, Air Nelson.

The Mayor of Kapiti says it will be a boost for the region's economy and increase the area's appeal as a tourist destination and place to live.

Jenny Rowan says it is a 'use it or lose it' opportunity and people need to use the service to ensure it continues.

"There is a lot of business in Christchurch's rebuild that involves people from Kapiti, and those people will be absolutely delighted with this connection."

Ms Rowan says the route is open for bookings now and flights will start in two or three months.
