9:55 am on 5 August 2013

An Fiji Airways aircraft on its way to Suva from Auckland was forced to return to Auckland international airport at about 9am on Monday after one of its engines caught fire.

The Fire Service confirmed the right engine of the Boeing 737-700 caught fire after take-off, forcing the emergency landing.

The plane landed safely and was escorted across the tarmac by six fire engines.

As a result, flights are now been delayed at Auckland Airport.
