Suspected abductor using social media

Police say they are aware that a man wanted in connection to the abduction of a two-year-old is posting comments on social media.

Gabriel Witehira-Donnelly was taken from his home in the the Auckland suburb of Panmure about midday on Sunday and found alone in a shed about eight hours later.

Police are continuing to search for Phillip Layton Edwards, 33, whom they believe was responsible for the abduction.

Detective Inspector Scott Beard said on Tuesday police are aware that Edwards has put posts on what they believe is his Facebook page, but would not comment further on the matter.

Mr Beard said friends and family of Edwards should not to help him, but instead tell him to hand himself in.

Edwards has connections around Auckland, Northland and Hawke's Bay.
