An organiser of the FIFA Under 20 football World Cup says the cities that will host the tournament are fully prepared thanks to the Rugby World Cup.

It was announced on Thursday that Auckland, Christchurch, Dunedin, Hamilton, New Plymouth, Wellington and Whangarei will host games.

All up, New Zealand will host 24 teams and 52 games between 30 May and 20 June 2015, in the first tournament to be held here.

Chief executive of the event's local organising committee David Beeche says the cities now have the facilities and experience needed.

He says councils and stadium staff understand what it takes to deliver a multi-day tournament after hosting the Rugby World Cup in 2011.

He says the tournament will be broadcast to about 170 million people in more than 100 countries.
