Properties raided in criminal gang investigation

More than 100 police officers have raided the homes of suspected members of a criminal gang after a spate of shootings in south Auckland.

Fifteen addresses were raided, one of which had a methamphetamine lab, and 13 people were arrested.

They, and five others arrested earlier in Operation Maggie, face charges including aggravated robberies, assaults and supplying drugs.

The operation began after there were six shootings between November and June.

Police say while all the victims of the shootings required hospital treatment, detectives received little co-operation from them.

They say they expect Wednesday's arrests to have a significant impact on organised criminal activity.

Police say the group has links to a chapter of the Black Power gang.
