Man found dead after double homicide formally identified

Police have formally identified the man who died in Auckland's Woodhill Forest days after a double homicide in a rural home.

John Mowatt, who was 51 and from Waimauku, shot himself a week ago.

He was a suspect in the killings of Glenys Stanton, 47, and Trevor Waite, 51, the preceding weekend.

Their bodies were found in Mr Waite's home at Opaheke, near Drury.

The police say Mr Mowatt was a former partner of Ms Stanton.

His body was being returned to his family on Tuesday, and the case has been referred to the coroner for an inquest.

Detective Inspector Dave Lynch says the police investigation has a long way to go before a conclusion can be reached about whether Mr Mowatt was connected with the deaths at Ponga Road.
