A foundation plaque for a centre devoted to the works of kinetic artist Len Lye has been unveiled in New Plymouth.

The $10 million centre, which will feature a facade of tall curved stainless-steel panels, has been criticised for being a waste of money.
The funding for it has been raised through private sponsorship and grants but the project has already run over budget.
Ratepayers will pay about $360,000 a year for operation costs, shared with the city's gallery.
About 60 people attended Tuesday morning's ceremony, which was briefly disrupted by a protester who shouted "no more lies" as he walked past the construction site.
New Plymouth District Council community services general manager Cathy Thurston says the unveiling is an important milestone, marking the start of a journey with a very good ending.
The centre will open in June 2015.
