Two climbers who fell to their deaths in separate accidents at Aoraki-Mt Cook National Park have been named.
Duncan Robert Raite, 36, died after slipping and falling 150ms in the Tasman Glacier area on Friday.
Robert Buckley, 32, died after falling 700ms near the Mount Sefton Bivvy late on Saturday.
Mr Raite was a New Zealander who had been living in Melbourne, and Mr Buckley was from Britain and had been living in Christchurch.
Investigations are continuing and both deaths have been referred to the Coroner.
Climbers need to be more aware - Mountain Safety Council
The Mountain Safety Council says climbers need to be more aware of the terrain they are entering and their own climbing abilities.
Council alpine manager Andrew Hobman told Morning Report there has not been a death in the park for some years, and that two occurred over the same weekend is a horrible coincidence.
