Auckland man pleads guilty to unlicensed immigration advice

9:53 pm on 10 October 2013

A south Auckland man already struck off as a licensed immigration adviser has pleaded guilty in Manukau District Court to six counts of providing immigration advice without a licence.

Hakaoro Hakaoro, 54, has also admitted one count of offering himself out as an immigration adviser when he wasn't licensed.

He is due to be sentenced on 22 November.

The maximum penalty is seven years in prison and a $100,000 fine.

Immigration Advisers Authority registrar Barry Smedts says the successful prosecution hinged on Pacific people speaking out and working with investigators to build a strong case.

He says anyone who receives poor immigration advice should complain.
