Govt advised to halve national standards reporting

A government advisory group has suggested halving the number of times schools report children's achievement against the national standards in reading, writing and maths.

Children are compared to the standards every year they are in primary and intermediate school, and their results are reported to the Ministry of Education.

But documents obtained by the Green Party show the National Standards Aggregate Results Advisory Group told the Government it should consider reporting children's achievement in alternate years, rather than every year.

It also says the Government should investigate the impact of the standards on children who are judged below a standard.
