Food safety warning for dietary supplement

8:35 pm on 23 October 2013

The Ministry for Primary Industries has issued a food safety warning for a dietary supplement that is potentially linked to several cases of hepatitis.

The ministry says the American Food and Drug Administration has also published a warning about OxyELITE Pro, which is sold in New Zealand over the internet and in sports supplement stores.

It says there is a potential link between the product and a number of cases of acute non-viral hepatitis in the United States, but no cases have been recorded in New Zealand so far.

The ministry is advising people not to consume the products and is investigating their potential health risk.
