Court to hear application for judicial review of deep sea drilling

12:27 pm on 2 December 2013

Greenpeace says the High Court has accepted its request to hold a judicial review into the decision to allow deep sea oiling drilling off the North Island west coast.

Anadarko of Texas is currently drilling about 100 nautical miles off the coast from Raglan.

Greenpeace abandoned a protest by six yachts in the area last week in favour of taking court action to stop the drilling.

It has been told that the High Court in Wellington is likely to hear the case next Monday and that it should take about 1½ days.

Greenpeace claims the Environmental Protection Authority made an error in law by allowing Anadarko to go ahead without looking at a number of key documents.
